The Rotterdam Town Band resides in the Capital District Area of Upstate New York.
It is our mission to provide the community with musical programs throughout the summer season, but also to provide a fun and interesting musical performance experience for our members. The Concert Band plays a broad range of musical styles; Marches, Big Band Music with Vocals, Symphonic Wind Ensemble Concert Compositions, Show Tune Medleys, and Small Ensemble and Section Features just to name a few. The Jazz band also plays some old big band tunes, newer original jazz charts, and features solos by a broad range of local musicians. The music for both groups will be moderately easy so that as many as possible may participate.
RTB has over 85 members ranging in age from 12 to 70+. Some of us are learning a new instrument or trying out a secondary instrument, others are returning from years of not playing, and some of us are even professional musicians and music educators keeping our chops in shape, our skills sharp, and just having fun playing! In short, we provide an opportunity for our membership to take part in an active performing band for their personal pleasure and enrichment.
We will begin rehearsing for the 2009 summer performances on June 1st and wind up our performance season on the 27th of July. Check the "Schedule" page for more details.
There is no audition required for new members and no membership fee to join the band. Just unpack that old instrument and bring it with you to rehearsals. Monday is the normal day for both rehearsals and performances from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. (See Schedule Page for any exceptions) Tuesday is the normal day for Jazz Band rehearsals. For additional information on joining the concert band, please contact our esteemed Kapellmeister Extraordinaire, Mark Eiser, at arkmeiser@aol.com.
For information about joining the Jazz Band contact Mark Eiser as noted above. Mark will be coordinating the registration, but the Jazz band will be directed this year by Justin Godlewski. "Just Right Justin" is a recent graduate of the college of St. Rose and has been on the staff of the Mohonasen Warrior Marching Band.
